It is rather sad that this less famous queen of Emperor Shah Jahan (as opposed to the more popular one of Taj Mahal fame) has been forgotten by Delhi walas…Her name was Fatepuri Begum, and she built this lovely mosque Fatehpuri Masjid at one end of Chandni Chowk, bang opposite the Red Fort at the other end. The mosque is operational even today, and its courtyard offers a peace and solace which is quite unlike the chaos of surrounding Chandni Chowk. Do visit when you are tired of pushing through the crowds and shopping in the heat….you’ll love it!
