If there’s one festival that truly epitomizes the victory of good over evil, it’s Dussehra. Celebrated across the country on the same day as Dashami of Durga Puja, Dussehra celebrates the victory of Lord Ram over the ten-headed demon king, Raavan. Effigies of the demon Raavan along with his two demon brothers Meghnath and Kumbhakarn are set on fire amidst much jubilation and amazing displays of fireworks. I was lucky to watch the spectacle at a small neighborhood in Delhi last week, after a round of pandal-watching that completed Durga Puja (see pictures in this post).
