An ornate little tomb cordoned off from the world…do you know what or where this is, dear readers?

Update: This is the mausoleum of Atgah Khan, foster-father to Mughal Emperor Akbar, and minister at his court. He was murdered by Adham Khan (a foster-brother of Akbar, not Atgah Khan’s son) out of jealousy. Those who’ve seen the Bollywood movie Jodha Akbar would remember the scene when Adham Khan was punished for this offense by Akbar, by being thrown down (twice!) from the ramparts of the Agra Fort. (Wiki has a nice painting of the incident here, from the Akbarnama).
This lovely little tomb still has much of its adornment intact. But it is so cramped on all sides by buildings in the Nizamuddin basti that it’s hard to reach and click a good picture. You almost need to cross people yards to reach it! Not many know of this beautiful tomb so close to the famous Dargah of Nizamuddin that is thronged by hundreds every day.
Is that the tomb of Atgah Khan, the ‘foster-father’ of Akbar? I believe it is situated within the Nizamuddin complex.
That’s right Naushirvan 🙂
Nice shot with the lights cascading… 🙂
Thanks Dew 🙂
Nizamuddin basti has a host of beautiful gems, hidden in its many nooks and crannies. This is a great click.
