Pic-A-Day Project: The Old and the New

Iron Pillar at sunset, Qutb Minar Complex, Delhi
Iron Pillar at sunset, Qutb Minar Complex, Delhi

An airplane flies into the sunset, while the Iron Pillar stands stoically in the Qutb Complex, having experienced many ups and downs in Delhi’s history ever since it was planted here in the reign of Chandragupta Vikramaditya of the Gupta dynasty (4th century AD).

The Jain temples of the area fell apart, Afghans came, established an empire and built the Qutb Minar…and in time many of the Qutb’s arches also caved in. But this marvel in iron lives on.

Shalabh– Thank you for this beautiful contribution!

That is a beautiful shot–the modern and the ancient co-exist–each having its own space and yet contributing to each other’s beauty–very nice!
