Where have you seen these richly carved pillars in Delhi?
Latest update: Full marks to In Search of Perfect! This is the mosque at the Qutb complex, called the Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque (meaning ‘Might of Islam’). It was built by Qutubuddin Aibak, founder of the Slave dynasty and the first Muslim ruler of Delhi. The mosque was further enlarged by his successor Iltutmish. The mosque was built as a large courtyard surrounded by beautifully carved pillars, which you see in the picture above. Many believe that Aibak re-used old pillars from ruined temples to create this mosque, so you will will find an amalgamation of Hindu and Muslim architectural styles here.
Qutub Minar? 🙂
That is correct!
